Ethnographic Encounters

Welcome to the Ethnographic Encounters Project Repository

The Ethnographic Encounters project repository is a collection of research materials which were gathered by University of Southampton modern languages undergraduate students during periods of residence abroad between 2014 and 2015. Students undertook sessions in ethnographic training prior to their residence abroad, and were then asked to conduct an independent enquiry into a topic of their choice, as a part of the existing year abroad research project (YARP) assignment.

This repository contains the primary data which students collected for that research, and includes interview transcripts, pictures, videos and sound files. It may be used for research purposes, and it is of interest to researchers studying the residence abroad, ethnography and language learning, or any of the topics mentioned. It is also of interest to educators working with modern languages students, or developing preparatory courses for research abroad.

The wider aim of this repository is to provide a platform for the recognition and distribution of data collected during undergraduate research abroad. It is hoped that further to this repository, more institutions will start to make their students' research data available to be worked with for teaching and research purposes.
